Sunday 6 September 2026 is the earliest date Football NSW permits clubs to hold 2027 Junior Development League trials. It is not a statewide trial day — each club sets its own sessions from this date onwards, and several have already announced theirs.

About this event

Football NSW sets the earliest date from which member clubs may begin trialling players for the 2027 season. For both Junior Development Leagues that date is Sunday 6 September 2026. Which competitions this covers: - Mixed Junior Development League (MJDL) — U9, U10, U11 and U12 - Girls Junior Development League (GJDL) — U10, U11, U12 and U13 Note the age ranges are not the same. The mixed competition starts at U9 and stops at U12; the girls competition starts at U10 and runs to U13. This is a permission date, not an appointment. There is no statewide trial to attend on 6 September and nothing to register for with Football NSW. What it means in practice is that clubs may start running their own sessions from that Sunday, and many do so immediately — South Coast Flame, Illawarra Stingrays, Macarthur Rams and Northern Tigers have all published JDL trials beginning on 6 September itself. Almost every club requires an expression of interest submitted before you attend, and most publish age-group session times only to players who have registered. So the date that matters to your family is usually earlier than this one: it is whenever your club's EOI opens. One restriction worth planning around: Football NSW states that no outdoor trials or training may take place on any Saturday during September, October, November and December 2026. Exemptions apply only to 1st Grade NPL NSW Men's, FNSW League One Men's, FNSW League Two Men's, NPL NSW Women's and FNSW League One Women's teams. In practice that pushes junior trials onto Sundays and weeknights for the rest of the year.

Who it suits

Families of players aged roughly 8 to 13 considering a Junior Development League club for 2027, who want to know when trials can start and how much time they have to get an expression of interest in.

Before you register

  • Check your own club's trial dates — this is the earliest permitted date, not a fixture
  • Confirm which age band applies: MJDL runs U9-U12, GJDL runs U10-U13
  • Submit the club's expression of interest first; most clubs will not let you just turn up
  • Expect Sundays and weeknights, as Saturdays are excluded from September to December
  • Ask the club how it handles players already registered elsewhere for 2026
